Karaoke

Tonight, we went to Amber's for a movie night with the NELY group. Marshall, Amy, James, Amber, Ben and I were there and had a ton of fun! We watched "Aristocats" and "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" and played UNO. It was SO much fun!!!

Afterwards, Amber and Ben and I decided to go out.

Thing is, I haven't sung in public in a VERY long time and I decided that because we were bored, we should go to Karouzo's. It's now called Titan's but I haven't been there in a few years and the sign on the building still says Karouzo's. I have to admit, I'm sure that it's like 54 in Lethbridge, which used to be called "the Goose" or something. It does make me feel old to realize that I'm going to be a "it was called and will always be" kind of person.

Anyway, so we went to Karouzo's and the other two got drinks, I had my Sprite and looked through the book of songs for a while before deciding to do one that I haven't sung in years... When I was just out of HS, Kristyn, Martha, Jason, Raymond and I used to hang out at Coyote's in the N.E. whether Kris or Raymond was working or not. Martha used to ask me to sing "These Boots are Made for Walking" by Nancy Sinatra. So, I decided that if I was going to sing anything, I would choose a genre or a time period and stick with it. lol, so, I chose "before my time" as a time period and ended up singing three songs. I did "Boots" then "I Will Survive" and then "If I Had a Hammer." It was an interesting combination.

After the first one, Amber and I went to the bar to buy drinks and the bartender asked me my name. So, I told him and then he told me that there was someone wanting to buy my table a round of drinks because I was such an amazing singer. I thought he was kidding me... Until he began to pour us almost anything we asked for. He and Amber and I did a shot of JD and then I got my Sprite and a Bottle Cap, Amber got her Rye and Coke, Ben's Rum and Coke and another shot. I think we only paid for one of the drinks, otherwise everything else ended up being covered. It was SO weird...

Another odd thing... People were getting up dancing during my songs. I mean, sure, I chose some more upbeat songs... But I'm not used to that kind of reaction. One girl grabbed me when I was walking back to my table to tell me she "loves that song!" and "you did a good job!" I found out later that she wanted to sing it and was kind of pissed that I did it. But I did ask the guy who leads it if anyone else had done or was going to do it and he said no.

I had fun with "I Will Survive" and when I looked up, Amber had been about to go order us food. I look at the table, she's not there. I look at the bar, she's not there either. I look at the people dancing in front of me and there's Amber! She's dancing with this guy, "Johnny"!!! I thought, "What the heck is she doing???" He came back and sat with us (kinda) and apparently had a hard time with the lyrics of some of the songs that were being sung.

During the last song, I was uber nervous. I've never sung it anywhere other than in my car and it has some interesting leaps and such. I had fun though, once I got over my nerves. Amber and Johnny danced the last song too... He was pretty hammered...

Afterwards, I drove Ben home and then took Amber home and stopped to visit with Amy and Jade. The four of us were sprawled all over Jade's bed and we told them about our night. It was awesome!

I haven't had that much fun in a long time and I'm glad we had the night out to unwind!
